In the first class, we were introduced to various semiotic terms such as concrete, abstract, local, global and vernacular. Vernacular is a new term that I came across in this class which was a language or a dialect that people of a particular place speak. At first I wasn’t sure why we would have to use this term in a sign project, but I understood that some signs are meant to be for a specific group of people. The example of this could be the sign for the handicapped people which is vernacular for the particular group of handicapped people.
